The LIAD research project aims to develop strategies for dismantling structures that have been damaged or completely destroyed following a catastrophic event.
LIAD brings together two partner laboratories:
- LITIS (Laboratoire d’Informatique, de Traitement de l’Information et des Systèmes - UR 4108)
- LOMC (Laboratoire Ondes et Milieux Complexes - UMR 6294)
and is funded by the ANR and the Normandy Region.
Contribution from la Bâtcave #
As the project focused on dismantling damaged sites, a logistics chain was developed to study, sort, clean, and potentially recycle the debris collected. In order to evaluate the tools developed by the project partners, it was essential to create data upstream of this logistics chain.
As post-disaster surveys and available data on the exact distribution of debris, their nature and the changes they underwent during the accident are rare, the simulation of catastrophic events was chosen.
La Bâtcave is therefore contributing its expertise by simulating fictional disasters in virtual reality on digital models of industrial structures.

To this end, we are currently developing a tool for manipulating 3D or BIM objects and interactive physical simulation of their destruction: Barney.
