Stereoscopy and anamorphosis #
The position of the user considered “pilot” is tracked in real time to calculate the correct perspective from their point of view (anamorphosis). The images are projected in stereoscopy to give an impression of depth, with the help of special glasses.
Use cases #
Virtual visit of BIM or 3D models #
Unlike virtual reality headsets in which the user is completely isolated from the outside world, CAVEs allow several people to navigate a scene together. This type of collaborative immersive environment is useful, for example to visit a BIM model, because it allows:
- quick detection of design issues which would be less visible on a flat screen (gaps, clashes…)
- collective and simultaneous identification of items needing attention by participants
La Bâtcave is used for educational purposes, allowing students to learn about the latest technological and IT advances.
Interaction and edition of models : LIAD #
More recently, we had the opportunity to contribute our expertise to a research project using the C.A.V.E. as part of the LIAD project. This project required the development of tools that would allow direct interaction with the 3D application and the model being studied: Barney and VROOM.
